Born in 1954 and growing up in Madison , NJ,  Charles  has always shown a great love of drawing and painting which was encouraged at a young age by his father, an amateur artist himself.  During his senior year in high school, Charles underwent three weeks of intensive study in art at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, which confirmed his desire to pursue art as a career.

Enrolling ar du Cret School of the Arts in Plainfield, NJ, he completed a three year curriculum in fine art, graduating cum laude and valedictorian in 1977.  During this time he studied under such renowned artists as Furman Finck and Ferdinand Petrie and attended a seminar on portraiture in New York City taught by John Howard Sanden.  Charles continued his study of figure and portrait painting in new York with David Leffel at the Art Students League until he was offered a teaching position at du Cret.   He remained there for six years, teaching classes in painting, color and drawing while receiving through teaching what he calls "the best education I could ever get."

After moving to rural western New Jersey, he began devoting his attention exclusively to his own work, accepting commissions for still life, landscape and portaiture executed in oil, casein, gouache, pencil and  colored pencil.  Today he exhibits in local and national shows, and has his work in numerous private collections, but still considers himself a lifelong student always learning and growing.
